Living Green
Since inception, CostaBaja’s mission has included protecting the beautiful and delicate ecosystem that surrounds our community. The master plan clusters development around the land’s natural vegetation and preserves the unique features of the terrain. A significant portion of the land has been and will continue to be purposefully undeveloped and protected.
Protecting plants and wildlife
As development throughout CostaBaja progresses, native cacti and desert plants are moved to a special on-site nursery for future replanting. Any surplus plants are donated to the Sierra de la Laguna Reserve, a protected habitat. In addition, our Fauna Protection Program ensures harm-free, successful relocation of desert species such as small foxes, hares, squirrels, snakes and geckos.
Protecting the Sea
At CostaBaja, we understand that our most outstanding feature is our beautiful location on the magnificent Sea of Cortez, and we are committed to protecting it. For example, the coral that was removed during the construction of our marina was replanted near Erendira beach, where it is vigilantly monitored by marine biologists to ensure its survival.
Our double-basin marina enforces strict environmental protection standards. For example, only biodegradable, phosphate-free soaps are allowed, and all potentially toxic waste is closely supervised to ensure that environmentally-correct disposal procedures are observed. Additionally, our state-of-the-art pumpout systems redirect wastewater to our on-site treatment plant.
Conserving water
CostaBaja’s on-site desalination plants employ reverse-osmosis technology to convert sea water into safe, high-quality drinking water. Our water treatment plant reclaims and purifies wastewater to irrigate the golf course, green areas, and landscaping.
Conserving electricity
CostaBaja’s abundant sunshine enables us to harness the power of the sun to meet many of our day-to-day electrical needs. For example, integrated solar panels power the lighting of the 120-room resort hotel. All of the residential pools, beach club pools and jacuzzis are heated exclusively by solar energy, and the vast majority of exterior landscaping lights are solar powered.
